What is urology?
Urology is a surgical specialty that treats diseases of the male and female urinary tract and male reproductive organs. This specialty is also related to the diagnosis and treatment of genital warts, as well as surgical care of the male and female adrenal glands.
All diseases related to one of these organs are within the scope of urology and are related to the urologist:
1. Adrenal glands:
The adrenal glands are a pair of walnut-sized glands located above the kidneys. They are yellow in color and have a great effect on controlling blood pressure and the immune system.
2. Kidneys:
The kidneys are a pair of glands, about 10-12 cm long and gray in color. The kidneys are protected under the lower ribs at the back of the body and inside the musculoskeletal compartment. The kidneys have the important task of filtering and purifying waste products from the body.
3. Ureters:
The ureters are a pair of tubular organs about 30 cm long. The ureters are located between the kidneys and the bladder and direct the urine produced by the kidneys into the bladder.
4. Bladder:
The bladder is located in one piece and is located below the abdomen and inside the pelvic cavity. The bladder is responsible for storing and emptying urine.
5. Ureter:
The urethra directs the urine stored in the kidneys to the outside according to the command issued by the brain. The length of the urethra in women is 4 cm and in men is 12 cm.
6. Testicles:
The testicles are located in one pair and are located inside the scrotum. The testicles are responsible for producing sex hormones and producing sperm for fertilization.
7. Epididymis:
The epididymis are very thin tubes attached to the testicles. The epididymis is responsible for the maturation and development of sperm produced by the testicles and plays an important role in fertility.
8. Testicular cord:
The spermatic cords on each side keep the testicles connected to the abdomen. Inside the spermatic cord, the vas deferens (sperm duct) and the testicular arteries and veins are located.
9. Vas deferens:
The vas deferens (sperm duct) direct the sperm produced by the testicles to the urethra.
10. Seminal vesicle:
The seminal vesicle is responsible for storing sperm in the body and is attached to the prostate. The seminal vesicles play an important role in pregnancy.
11. Scrotum:
The scrotum protects and regulates the temperature of the testicles.
12. Prostate:
The prostate gland is the size of a hazelnut and is attached to the bottom of the bladder. The prostate plays a role in the production of sex hormones.
